FPIRC Course Catalogue

This catalogue provides information about post-graduate courses in Pulp & Paper Science, arranged by FPIRC. These courses are open to PhD-students from Sweden and abroad. For scientists and industrial participants (from Sweden as well as abroad) the courses are available as commissioned education.

Registration to a FPIRC course is made through the "register" link (when open), at the right of the course in question in the table below.

Apart from the FPIRC course catalogue, FPIRC also lists other Swedish PhD-courses in pulp and paper science, and also miscellaneous events and courses within the field (see below).

Until Dec 2012, the courses from the Finn network/organization PaPSaT is available – free of charge – for Swedish PhD-students within the field and from the FPIRC-universities, as the FPIRC curriculum below is available free of charge for Finn PhD-students, belonging to PaPSaT.

The course language is English (unless another language is specified).

The courses are normally offered at intervals of two or three years. A preliminary point of time* is given in the "Period" column; an exact date is given in the schedule (and the Comment column) – click at the schedule (pdf) symbol when available. Not until the schedule has appeared has the course date been definitely fixed – changes may occur before this.

*
Course dates are given in terms of periods:

  • Autumn: Period 1-2
  • Spring: Period 3-4

The academic year is divided into four study periods: Period 1 starts after the summer (approx. Aug - Oct), period 2 lies before Christmas (approx. Oct - Dec), period 3 starts after Christmas (approx. Jan - March), and period 4 starts after Easter (approx. March - May). See more at the KTH web page.

** The file is made in pdf-format. To read it you need the program Adobe Acrobat Reader.

*** A week number in this column should be looked upon as a preliminary course week

The above FPIRC course list is not an exhaustive list of all the PhD courses given by Swedish Universities in the Forest Products oriented sciences. Apart from the FPIRC course catalogue above, FPIRC also lists other Swedish PhD-courses in pulp and paper science, and also some miscellaneous events & courses

The FPIRC curses are given primarily in Stockholm – the capital of Sweden – Lund, Gothenburg, Sundsvall or Karlstad. Below are listed what to do in these cities.

Besides being directed towards PhD-students, FPIRC's courses are also very suitable as high-level commissioned education for scientists and industrially active development engineers and researchers, both in Sweden and abroad (the course language is English). The intention is to indicate where the cutting-edge of research lies in chosen sections of the Pulp & Paper value-added chain.

For industrial participants (commissioned education), a course fee will be charged. It will be invoiced after the end of the course. It is of course possible to choose between the whole course and separate days; if you do not want to participate in the whole course - please send, at least five days before the course start, a separate e-mail (i. e. in addition to the regular registration) to the FPIRC office explaining exactly what day(s) you wish to participate.

Any cancellation must be made to – FPIRC at least five days before the course start, otherwise an invoice will be sent.

For those who so desire, a certificate of participation will be provided after the end of the course.

N.B!

  1. Course dates may be subjected to change
  2. For course details please contact the responsible course leader
  3. Registration is usually required no later than two weeks before the start of the course
  4. Most courses have a restricted number of participants and you will be accepted according to the "first come – first served" principle – a registration is always confirmed with an e-mail from the FPRIC office
  5. Any cancellation must be made – to FPIRC  at least five days before the course start
  6. Please, send FPIRC a note if you wish to receive an e-mail with a separate announcement for each course when the date is fixed (only one e-mail per course is sent; there will be no reminder). Also, do not forget to inform FPIRC if you have changed (or will change) your e-mail address
  7. PhD-students from the Nordic countries Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland as well as the autonomous areas of the Åland Islands, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland and also the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania), and North-Western Russia - may be able to get a course scholarship from NordForsk (the Nordic Research Board).
  8. The purpose of the NordForsk course scholarships is to give research students in one Nordic country the opportunity to participate in unique research training courses given in another Nordic country. It is normally the organizer of the course (i.e. the responsible scientific person/FPIRC) who has to apply to NordForsk for a course scholarship for named research students; please notify FPIRC if you wish to apply for such a scholarship. Note, however, that NordForsk has its own application deadlines that may not necessarily be in harmony with the deadlines for the FPIRC courses.

This education programme is arranged in co-operation with the following Universities and Institutes:
